NEW Speaker Cable Design Evolution 2
We introduced of our newest product development, Evolution 2 Loudspeaker Cables last week. Here are details about the differences between the new and the old speaker cable designs.
The Evolution 2 was originally developed for the Diamond Series speaker cables in June 2023. This design features a new Litz wire configuration lowering overall inductance along with an improved dielectric design lowering capacitance. Impedance and DC resistance is about the same.
Recently, we came up with a way to incorporate much of those benefits into our Blue, Silver and Platinum speaker cables.
The Evolution 2 Diamond Series cables have been extensively tested in our reference system along with several of our partners with consistent and mutually agreed upon observations. The first public debut was at the recent Capital Audiofest on Rockville, MD with partners Linear Tube Audio and Daedalus Audio.
How do these new speaker cables sound compared to the older design? Our listening tests contain recordings that we know very well and that we listen to often. Some of the artists we use as references are Patricia Barber, Ricky Lee Jones, Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, Fritz Reiner (Chicago Symphony) and Miles Davis. Like many of you we seek out the highest resolution versions for testing.
The first three seconds on a track by Patricia Barber "Autumn Leaves" surprised me. Immediately apparent were much greater presence in Patricia’s voice and accompanying acoustic guitar. Upon introduction of the acoustic bass I could hear more low frequency extension along with never-heard-before details associated with the plucking of strings, finger prints, neck slapping, body resonance and and a gut punch usually reserved for a live stand up bass. I got a much heightened feeling of listening to humans creating music.
On Ricky Lee Jones “Easy Money” a lot more was going on musically than I had heard previously. Most notably, there is a brief solo that sounds like a “honkey tonk” piano. Upon closer inspection, may not be a piano at all but something else, but what. Turns out it’s a synthesized clavichord with it’s own space, very very clearly presented in the soundstage.
The Chicago Symphony’s performance of Scherezade, lead by Fritz Reiner, was an eye opener for me. This album is known for it’s excellent production and bombastic presentation. With the Evolution 2 it took on another level of detail, dynamics and realism. The opening consists of the First Violinist playing and after a few seconds, a harp joins in. For the first time, I can hear that the harp is not just a mere accompaniment to the violin but an integral part of the introductory opening of the movement with it’s own presence and vibrance. The entire album was filled with surprises brought about with the Evolution 2.
I could go on and on. In summary, I and our partners agree that the Evolution 2 is a fantastic improvement over any previous version. As I listen to music, even casually, I’m constantly impressed with the new Diamond design and I’m 100% positive, you will be too.
Where to go from here? The Evolution 2 is a very different design and construction and cannot be retrofitted to older cables, unfortunately. We will, however provide a generous trade-in allowance for your old Blue, Silver, Platinum and Diamond series cables. If you are interested in upgrading, please contact us info@wywires.com or call 818.383.0500.
Pricing: Although the Evolution 2 has elevated the performance of all our speaker cables to a substantial degree, we chose not to raise prices.
Wishing you more music,
